The nights grow darker, 1-2-3,
Watch families decorate their Christmas Tree.
He’ll be coming soon- He’s on his way!
Better behave! The parents will say.
Eyes of wonder, shining so bright,
Oh! To see Santa! Oh! What a sight!
Looking for a sleigh with reindeer taking a flight,
For a man shouting…
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
I can’t believe that my favourite month of the year is FINALLY HERE. Guys!!!! IT’S CHRISTMAS! It has been Christmas season for me since July but never mind about that. Like a lot of people, Christmas means the world to me and I feel that the blogging community make Christmas extra special. I love that. Even though this month is special to a lot of people, I thought it would be nice for me to reflect on the reasons why I love Christmas so much- some reasons I am sure you can relate to. But some reasons are personal as to why this time of year is my favourite…
I know, I know… Christmas music is always one of the first things that people think of when talking about Christmas. Not going to lie, I start listening to Christmas music in July. Something about it makes me feel very happy and I am sure a lot of people feel the same. As soon as I hear … ‘it’s Christmas Time…’ I automatically feel like Christmas has begun. And I know a lot of us all wait for Mariah Carey to sing ‘aaaahhh-iiii’ when ‘All I Want for Christmas’ comes on.
Music in general is a very nostalgic thing. One song can send you back to any moment in your life. I am in a very lucky position where every single Christmas song takes me back to a very happy time in my childhood.
I am sure that A LOT of people love the food at Christmas time. I’m always in shock of people who say they are going on a diet in December. I just stand there and I am like how?!? Christmas is the time where you don’t feel guilty about having chocolate for breakfast! I mean, hello, that’s why we have chocolate advent calendars right? Anyway, I am getting side tracked. Don’t get me wrong, I love food always. However, there is something about food in the Christmas Season that just makes you want to indulge in it as much as possible.
There are many things I love about Christmas food but ironically, there are a few festive peices I really don’t like such as mince pies, Christmas pudding and Christmas cake… I know it’s terrible and I wish I liked them. I just can’t get into the dried fruit! But it’s okay, I have hot chocolates in Christmas mugs, turkey and stuffing, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, pate, chocolate pieces, crepes with Nutella and a chocolate advent calendar to look forward too. I’m sure I’m not missing out.
Aaah, the Christmas Markets. Always busy. Always fun. Always bloody freezing. That is until you go and get your mulled wine or mulled cider. Christmas markets are special anywhere but I have to say I can always rely on the Edinburgh Christmas markets to have some festive fun. Decorations, food, music, rides, stalls, people, ice-skating… need I go on? I will definitely be spending all my free weekends at the markets! I’m actually going tomorrow as you read this haha!
THE POWER OF GIVING
One of my favourite things about Christmas is giving. I think this is one of the main reasons why I start Christmas so early. If you start Christmas shopping early folks, it won’t be that stressful! I love planning what to get people. Especially my friends and family. I always want to give them the world but my bank account won’t always allow it. So I start by thinking of what to get them as a ‘main’ present and then see if I can add any small ones later.
What makes Christmas for me is seeing people’s faces as they open their presents with joy. To see that I have managed to make someone happy.
I guess a lot of people will be gutted that the cold weather is coming out. Well guess what? I love looking out my coats, hats and scarves okay? Autumn Winter are my favourite months! I love walking in the crisp cold mornings where Jack Frost has gracefully made everything sparkle and then BAM! I’m flat on a butt from falling on ice. No worries though, I still love this weather. It brings out my favourite fashion pieces!
Oooooooh myyyyy goooooddddd. (Yes I am cringing inside that I wrote ‘OMG’ like that but I think it’s the only way to express my excitement.) I love decorating. I’m talking fairy lights EVERYWHERE. Decorations can really bring the festive spirit into your home by adding twinkling magic on to trees, fire places and stair cases.
This year I have bought A LOT of new decorations. In fact, as you are reading this. I will be putting them up right now all over my house. There will be a blog post coming in a couple days all about my decorations.
The number one reason I love Christmas. As children, we pride ourselves with our joy for Christmas. As adults, we tend to somehow lose that. I ALWAYS find my childlike joy at Christmas. The truth is, the magic never ends. Not if you hold on to it. In a way, Santa is always real. As individuals, we all hold the power to be our own Father Christmas’. Give love and joy this christmas. Be jolly. Be kind. Be full of wonder. Make Christmas your own and you will find the magic will always find you. You will see it in the faces of those around you, in the twinkling frost, in the sparkling decorations, in the chimes of songs, in the taste of food. You will also find it in yourself.
I thank you, personally, for clicking on this blog post and reading it. I can’t wait for all of us to see how my Blogmas goes. I hope you enjoy this Blogmas as much as I will.
Thank you and I will see you tomorrow.
24 Days to go…
